Driven by a lifelong fascination with human behavior and a desire to make a tangible difference, I became a therapist to guide individuals toward a deeper understanding of themselves as they navigate the human experience.
My Approach
I work from a secular perspective, meaning I work with you from a neutral standpoint regarding religion and spirituality, accepting your individual beliefs and values without imposing my own. I aim to foster a brave space—one grounded in respect and understanding, where discomfort is likely to arise as part of the change process. Growth, learning, and doing something new often require stepping outside your comfort zone; staying comfortable can prevent the courageous conversations and actions that create meaningful change.
Therapeutic Style
The primary therapy model I use is Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), the original form of cognitive-behavioral therapy. REBT integrates philosophy, rational analysis, applied linguistics, and behavioral science to address emotional disturbance and self-defeating behavior at its roots. Originally called rational psychotherapy, REBT is a direct, educational, and action-oriented approach that focuses on teaching clients how their evaluations of situations shape their emotions and behaviors—and how to change them.
In practice, this means we use methods like recognizing irrational judgments, disputing beliefs, working to accept what cannot be controlled or changed, and engaging in behavior practice to reinforce healthier, reality-based thinking. REBT also draws on insights from Stoic philosophy, emphasizing personal responsibility, resilience, and unconditional acceptance of self, others, and the world. One of the core tenets of REBT is to help people get better, not just feel better—to achieve lasting psychological change by developing a new way of thinking or philosophizing.
I may also incorporate elements of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), hypnosis, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), and psychodynamic approaches.
Who I work with
I specialize in helping adults navigate a range of concerns, particularly ADHD, men’s issues, stress management, relationship difficulties, self-worth and self-esteem issues, and pressures of college life.
I work with individuals who recognize that many factors contribute to the experiences we have in life, including how we think, feel, act, the environment we’re in, and the people around us. Suppressing or avoiding challenges prevents them from being addressed. If what we’re doing is not helping us achieve our goals, then it’s time to do something different.
