Navigating the Challenges of Emerging Adulthood

My name is Gregory Heaney, and I specialize in helping adults navigate the complex, and often overwhelming, chapters of college, early career development, and major life changes. While these milestones are often celebrated, the reality is that life transitions can be incredibly disorienting.

Shifting from the structured environment of high school or college into the open-ended reality of adulthood often triggers profound anxiety, depression, and existential doubt. During these transitions, it is common to wrestle with “imposter syndrome,” decision paralysis, or a deep sense of feeling “stuck.” You may find yourself asking heavy questions about your identity and purpose: Am I on the right path? Why does everyone else seem to have this figured out? What do I actually want out of life? The pressure to succeed academically or establish a career can lead to burnout and a loss of self. My goal is to help you untangle these fears, easing the stress of the unknown and helping you build a life that feels authentic and manageable.

An Integrative, Tailored Clinical Approach Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process. I utilize a highly integrative clinical framework tailored to your unique needs, personality, and goals. At the absolute core of my practice are Humanistic principles and intentional Rapport Building Interventions. I believe that genuine healing begins in a space that is warm, collaborative, and entirely free of judgment.

To help you move forward, I draw from a comprehensive therapeutic toolkit:

    • Action & Acceptance (ACT & CBT): I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you map out and gently challenge the unhelpful thought patterns driving your anxiety or depression. Alongside this, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps foster “psychological flexibility,” teaching you how to accept uncomfortable emotions without letting them dictate your choices, so you can take committed action toward your values.

    • Depth & Discovery (IFS & Psychodynamic): When we need to look beneath the surface, I incorporate Psychodynamic therapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS). These approaches allow us to explore how past experiences shape your current reality and help you understand the different, sometimes conflicting, “parts” of yourself.

    • Meaning & Momentum (Existential, MI, & Problem Solving): Exploring life transitions naturally brings up Existential themes of meaning, freedom, and responsibility. I hold space for these deep explorations while simultaneously using Motivational Interviewing (MI) and practical Supportive Counseling/Problem-Solving Strategies. This ensures you are not just exploring your feelings, but are also equipped with tangible tools to break through career stagnation, academic hurdles, and daily life stressors.

A Collaborative Journey Change is daunting, especially when the path ahead is unclear. You do not have to carry the weight of these transitions alone. It is my privilege to hear your story, help you make sense of the chaos, and work alongside you to build a life marked by confidence, resilience, and self-compassion.

    A Safe Haven for Vulnerability

I became a therapist because I believe that giving voice to our struggles is a transformative act. It is my privilege to be the person who hears your story and helps you find clarity in the chaos of life’s changes. Healing and growth begin the moment you realize you don’t have to take this journey alone.
